June is always a busy time for garden designers. However the first half of this June seems to have been particularly busy!
Here in Scotland June always starts off with Scotland's biggest gardening event - Gardening Scotland. A 'poor relation' alongside Chelsea but none-the-less there are always some interesting stands to visit - especially those of the plant nurseries. This year I visited on the opening day which saw temperatures peak at 29 degrees! I met up with a number of other garden designers and exchanged views on the handful of show gardens. After lunch I met with a client to look at the plant stands and develop some planting ideas for her cottage garden in Gullane in East Lothian.
I have 2 gardens being built at present. A small make-over in North Berwick and a much bigger garden in Dirleton where we are putting in both new front and back gardens. The garden in Dirleton belongs to one of the oldest properties in the village and so a sensitive design was called for using sympathetic and natural materials. At the same time I have been working on the design for front and back gardens of a property in North Berwick.
Today has seen enquiries from a property developer in Edinburgh's New Town and another from Kirkliston to the west of Edinburgh. The month looks as if it will continue to be busy!
Unlike others I was delighted to see some good steady rain this week-end! I have recently been replacing planting for a client which was lost through the severe winter. Rain was needed to ensure continuing establishment of the plants.
